About us

Organisation of African Youth (OAYouth) is a continental, member-based, non-profit organisation registered in 11 countries and operating with 35 chapters in Africa.

OAYouth is an empowerment vehicle and a revolutionary movement for all youth in Africa. It is a regional platform for young people to assert their power in numbers, energy and imagination to transform Africa to be a beacon of hope.

OAYouth works to motivate, unify and empower African youth to be drivers of Africa’s social, political and economic transformation.

Through structured programs, OAYouth harnesses resources and ideas to empower tomorrow’s leaders today

Organisation of African Youth membership (often referred as “OAYouth Advocates”) is open to individual young African youth of between 15 to 35 years of age, as contemplated in the African Youth Charter and in OAYouth Constitution. Youth organisations, business entities and other NGOs can also join as associate members, partners and sponsors to support the work of OAYouth.

Organisation of African Youth established activity targets that all youth in their individual and collective capacities can engage that are achievable. The organisation is an active and interactive catalyst for the empowerment of youth in Africa, where everyone is a leader.

Below are focus areas that young people can engage and be part of as leaders in their communities, country and continent:
1.    Use activism and political participation to prevent and solve conflicts
2.    Bring a sense of unity and concomitant direction of purpose amongst young people through Peer-to-peer forums;
3.    Create a medium of communication such as a continental television channel that presents all youth issues  in the language that young people use and understand;
4.    Ensure youth representation on such international institutions as AU, UN, SADC, COMESA, etc;
5.    Identify young Africans who have a sense of volunteerism and those who are willing to lead;
6.    Encourage and facilitate entrepreneurship and job creation to reduce brain drain and unemployment;
7.    Engage young people in business initiatives to enhance economic development;
8.    Ensure young people participate in African politics;
9.    Identify youths that can be trained in international institutions;
10.  Promote a culture of religious tolerance between Islamic and Christian religions through inter-religious and inter-cultural interactions;
11.  Promote the development of Art and Information Technology for youths;
12.  Work to ensure that primary education becomes free for all;
13.  Promote greater participation of women in leadership roles, with a view to achieve at least 30% female presidents and vice-presidents in African states within 10 years;
14.  Mobilise the youth to volunteer for the reconstruction of areas devastated by war and the re-integration of child combatants into society;
15.  Encourage the corporate world to sponsor school continental sporting tournaments;
16.  Ensure that human rights are taught in schools;
17.  Mobilise youth to fight against drug abuse, drug trafficking and tobacco consumption
18.  Reach out to and rehabilitate marginalized youth and orphans who are prone to psychosomatic disturbances due to abuse at young age;
19.  Teach youths about love and relationships to curb suicides and murder due to infidelities, reduce high incidence of HIV/AIDS, stop forced marriages and obliterate any fallacious beliefs associated with child rape and virginity.
